We're losing the Russian sabotage story. Putin's interference has been normalized for 1/2 the country since Summer. It’s the holidays. Americans are sick of politics. There’s only one way to make the story stick.
Pick the WHY that matters most.
So why does Russian interference matter? Oil? Yes, but [eye-roll]. Will that get people mad? No.
Money? So what else is new. No one thinks Trump was going to go into office to do good for others.
No, oil and money, corruption — they all miss the point.
Here’s how Russia’s influence on the election will resonate with Americans...
Russian wages in the manufacturing sector average $18/day ("Big, Bad" China's daily wage average is $22) Medium to large companies have manufacturing in Russia in large numbers (even DOW, GM, Boeing, Ford, Deere and Caterpillar).
The big story here is that the U.S. has strict sanctions in place in Russia. It's hurting Russia bad. U.S. companies want sanctions lifted because they want to keep the manufacturing jobs in cheap Russia.
Yeah, that’s right. Russia is just another low wage country ready to lobby hard for our jobs, manufacturing and otherwise. For those of you who already knew all this, that’s great! But no one is talking about how close ties with Russia will impact our pocketbooks.
This Russian interference story is a bunch of different kinds of stories. But if you want the story to stick then let's focus on it as a jobs story. Because it is a jobs story.
